Is sigiriya palace an old shiva temple .?

 

Sigiriya is widely registered as the kingdom of kashyapa.Historical sources statue that the place was a resistance of monks before prince kashyapa chose sigiriya as his place.However around 1888, H.C.P. Bell, the first commissioner of archaeology sri lanka, Saw the ruins of a structure of sigiriya.it is a staircase made of marble with 14 steps.

According to the chronological record, this construction dates back to BC. Proved to belong to the era. But king kashyapa reigned at sigiriya at AD.in the era. But BC. history does not mention that sigiriya was a kingdom during that period. so who was the king of sigiriya at that time.? The problem arises.

It is important to note in some history books that in the past a king named " shiva " ruled over sigiriya. After his death, the people began to worship him as a deity and the temple became a shiva temple..accordingly, in the past sigiriya was known as " Shivagiriya " and later " Shivagiriya " became a " sigiriya "....
